Hanging in Bill DeSanto's small, cramped office in the 410 Cafe is a plaque from the Army National Guard Armory in Buckley with the "Ballad of the Green Berets" recognizing the special work he's done.
But instead of referring to military service, DeSanto instead was recently recognized for working with the Army National Guard Armory in Buckley and providing food for the soldiers.
DeSanto, owner of the 410 Cafe, who had worked with the armory in the past when he catered a meal at Fort Lewis for soldiers about to be deployed to the Middle East, provided meals for about two and a half months this summer for Armory soldiers who had returned from the Middle East.
In April of this year, the armory asked DeSanto if he wanted to bid on making the meals for the unit, along with three other restaurants in the area, and the 410 Cafe got the bid.
"When you can have a win/win business situation, it's a good situation," DeSanto said.
Instead of moving into the armory, the servicemen came to the 410 for their meals. DeSanto said it was good for the business because the economy has been slow, and it was good for everybody who worked there. He said he and his staff were proud to support the troops.
